Statues

There was a news item stating the some students in Tamilnadu, as a part of NSS volunteered to wash Gandhi statues in the city on the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi. The organisers were of the opinion that by doing this the students would know about the Father of Nation and his contribution to the nation. What a shame! The situation has come to this stage where we have to create awareness this way!

As it is statues are sheer wastage of public money, they only add to the congestion, a place for the birds to perch and dirty, the foot hold a place for beggars to rest. Deciding on the statues, inaugurating them, are all throwing mud on the faces of public.

Diverting this amount on rehabilitation would bring smile on many faces. The ministers and leaders also remember the departed leaders only on the birth and death anniversaries. They with their convoy make a line to garland the statue; this is a regular ritual; not following what these leaders stand for or their preaching. So much of public money is wasted.

A small park instead of the statues would be pleasant to the eyes as well beautify the place .
