The Unhappy Young Lady

The old Master instructed the unhappy young lady to put a handful of salt in a glass of water and then to drink it. "How does it taste?" the Master asked. "Very bad" Said the lady.

The Master then asked the young lady to take another handful of salt and put it in the lake. The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and when the apprentice swirled his handful of salt into the lake, the old man said, "Now drink from the lake."

As the water dripped down the young lady's chin, the Master asked, "How does it taste?" "Good!" remarked the apprentice. "Do you taste the salt?" asked the Master. "No," said the young lady.

The Master said, "The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains the same, exactly the same. But the amount we taste the 'pain' depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things..... Stop being a glass.  Become a lake!"

Suresh and Ramesh joined a wholesale company together just after graduation. Both worked very hard. After several years, the boss promoted Ramesh to sales executive but Suresh remained a sales rep.

One day Suresh could not take it anymore, tender resignation to the boss and complained the boss did not value hard working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him.

The boss knew that Suresh worked very hard for the years, but in order to help Suresh realise the difference between him and Ramesh, the boss asked Suresh to do the following. Go and find out if anyone is selling water melon in the market?

Suresh returned and said yes. The boss asked how much per kg?
Suresh went back to the market to ask and returned to inform the boss the price is Rs12 per kg.
Boss told Suresh, I will ask Ramesh the same question?
Ramesh went, returned and said, boss, Only one person selling water melon.
Price is Rs12 per kg, Rs100 for 10 kg, he has inventory of 340 melons.
On the table 58 melons, every melon weighs about 15 kg, bought from the South two days ago, they are fresh and red, good quality.

Suresh was very impressed and realised the difference between himself and Ramesh.
He decided not to resign but to learn more.
