The only son of Kumbakonam Sri Ganesan was to be invested with the sacred thread. Arrangements were being made enthusiastically. A day before the muhurta, the boy died hit by a bus.
The boy's parents were plunged in endless grief. Some months later, the couple came for Sri Periyaval's darsan.
The couple's prayer that they should be blessed with a child was conveyed to Sri Periyaval by the attendant. For sometime Periyaval sat with his eyes closed and his hand on his navel for a while. Then he gave them two guava fruits. The couple were consoled when the attendants told them that Periyaval's gesture of placing his hand on his navel and then blessing the couple was significant.
Of the two fruits, one was a little rotten. Anyway, since it was Sri Periyaval's prasada, the lady ate both the fruits. The lady became pregnant after a while but suffered miscarriage. When she became pregnant again, the doctors who examined her said, "You have not conceived a child. it is some kind of tumour in the stomach". The lady was then forty seven and so the doctors were emphatic in their opinion.
Will the grace of the Doctor of all doctors got to waste? By Sri Periyaval's grace, a girl was born. The child has brought joy to the family and is of a good and disciplined nature
