Short Stories from the mail

A cowherd once left one of his cows in the forest. The cow was pregnant, and wanted to protect the calf that was soon to be born. So when she saw a lioness in the forest, she was very scared, thinking the lioness may kill her and her tiny calf for a meal. But the lioness was kind and spoke nicely to the cow. Having no cowherd or other cows to protect her, the cow had to trust the lioness.

And the cow noticed the lioness's large belly, and saw that she too was going to have a baby. When the cow and lioness each had their baby, the newborn calf and cub played together.

They became good friends. One day, a man saw them in the forest playing together. He went to see the king, and the king said, 'So, you are often traveling through the forest. Have you seen anything interesting in the forest lately?'

The man replied, 'As a matter of fact, I saw something quite interesting. I saw a lion and a cow walking together in a friendly way'.

The king thought for a moment, and then said, ' a third animal joins them, there will surely be trouble. Tell me if you see another animal joining them.'

A jackal also saw the young lion and  the cub playing together in the forest. The jackal, as usual, was just thinking about his own belly, what food he wanted to eat. He thought, I have eaten the meat of many different animals.  But I have never eaten the meat of a cow.

And I have never eaten the meat of a lion. I would really like to eat cow meat and lion meat. But these two will protect each other as long as they are friends, so no one will be able to kill them for food. I must think of a way to change that. Ah!
I have an idea. If I make them dislike each other, then I will have their meat.

So when the jackal noticed the lion wander away from the bull in search of food, the jackal walked over to the lion and said, ' Dear lion, did you know that your friend the cow  says you are very proud of your mane and your muscles? The lion was surprised, and said, ' What? He said that about ME?'
No!' The jackal had a knowing look on his face, and quietly walked away.

Then the jackal came near the cow and sat near him. When the cow looked in his direction, the jackal said,'Dear cow , did you know that your friend the lion says that you are lazy and foolish?' The cow looked at him in disbelief, and said, ' don't think he would say that. He is my friend.'

The jackal, with a knowing look on his face, glanced at the bull and casually walked away.

The cow could see the lion nearby, and imagined the lion saying that he is lazy and foolish. The lion looked over in the direction of the bull, and imagined the cow saying that he is a show-off, arrogant and vain about his appearance. They did not look at each other with friendly feelings anymore. They each looked at the other with doubt and distrust. They imagined the other saying unkind things about them. So they did not speak much anymore. They felt uncomfortable with each other. Soon they began to argue.

The lion complained, 'Hey, you stepped on my tail, you big brute.' The bull replied, 'Well, you were not watching where you were going. Maybe you were distracted.'

The lion thought,'Maybe the cow is foolish and lazy. He is not careful. The cow  thought, Maybe the lion is vain, proud of his appearance. He doesn't care about others.

The more they thought about each other, the more they disliked each other.

The man had seen the jackal near the cow and lion, and he reported it to the king,

'You told me to tell you if I see another animal with the bull and lion. Well, I did see another animal with them.

The king asked, 'Which kind of animal?'

The man replied, 'A jackal.'

The king raisedhis eyebrows, and said, 'The jackal will cause them to fight and cause their death. The cow and lion will soon be dead.'

The king took the man out to the forest in a chariot so they could both see what happened. Soon, they found the jackal happily eating. He took a bite of the dead cow,,then a bite of the dead lion. The king said, 'See how slander is like a sword. It cuts two friends apart. If you listen to slander, you will end up in misery, losing your friend.

Story # 1

It's a fine sunny day in the forest and a lion is sitting outside his cave, lying lazily in the sun. Along comes a fox, out on a walk.

Fox: "Do you know the time, because my watch is broken"
Lion: "Oh, I can easily fix the watch for you"
Fox: "Hmm... But it's a very complicated mechanism, and your big claws will only destroy it even more."
Lion: "Oh no, give it to me, and it will be fixed"
Fox: "That's ridiculous! Any fool knows that lazy lions with great claws cannot fix complicated watches"
Lion: "Sure they do, give it to me and it will be fixed"

The lion disappears into his cave, and after a while he comes back with the watch which is running perfectly. The fox is impressed, and the lion continues to lie lazily in the sun, looking very pleased with himself.

Soon a wolf comes along and stops to watch the lazy lion in the sun.

Wolf: "Can I come and watch TV tonight with you, because mine is broken"
Lion: "Oh, I can easily fix your TV for you"
Wolf: "You don't expect me to believe such rubbish, do you? There is no way that a lazy lion with big claws can fix a complicated TV.
Lion: "No problem. Do you want to try it?"

The lion goes into his cave, and after a while comes back with a perfectly fixed TV. The wolf goes away happily and amazed.

Scene : Inside the lion's cave. In one corner are half a dozen small and intelligent looking rabbits who are busily doing very complicated work with very detailed instruments. In the other corner lies a huge lion looking very pleased with himself.

Story # 2

It's a fine sunny day in the forest and a rabbit is sitting outside his burrow, tippy-tapping on his typewriter. Along comes a fox, out for a walk.

Fox: "What are you working on?"
Rabbit: "My thesis."
Fox: "Hmm... What is it about?"
Rabbit: "Oh, I'm writing about how rabbits eat foxes."
Fox: "That's ridiculous ! Any fool knows that rabbits don't eat foxes!
Rabbit: "Come with me and I'll show you!"

They both disappear into the rabbit's burrow. After few minutes, gnawing on a fox bone, the rabbit returns to his typewriter and resumes typing.

Soon a wolf comes along and stops to watch the hardworking rabbit.
Wolf: "What's that you are writing?"
Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat wolves."
Wolf: "you don't expect to get such rubbish published, do you?"
Rabbit: "No problem. Do you want to see why?"

The rabbit and the wolf go into the burrow and again the rabbit returns by himself, after a few minutes, and goes back to typing.
Finally a bear comes along and asks, "What are you doing?
Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat bears."
Bear: "Well that's absurd !"
Rabbit: "Come into my home and I'll show you"

Scene : As they enter the burrow, the rabbit introduces the bear to the lion.

When you die you don't remember how many clothes you had

I met a 74 years old retired Pilot and he has been wearing same 4 shirts for last 8 years. I asked him that he has so much of money, why he does not buy more clothes and he said that they are in good condition. He does not need more clothes. He said that I am happy because I can use same money for small children in the orphanage. I met another Chinese lady who use to donate all her income in the charity after keeping little for herself. She said that I really do not need so much of money. If I am earning may be because I am suppose to share rest. I got an opportunity to rub on the true beauty inside her and got a chance to sit with her for sometime. She said that in her younger days she use to buy many clothes. Infact, sometimes, they lied untouched for years. One day she saw a small child shivering in cold wearing no warmers. She gave him her jacket which she had not worn for 4-5 years. He was very happy and since then his smile keeps warming her heart
always. After that she said that now when she has crossed 65, she does not remember, how many dresses she had worn and how she looked in them or what compliment people gave to her. She remembers only those smiles which had touched her heart. I was listening to her and could feel her heart smiling which was making my heart smile too. You do not have to speak words sometimes, and we shared lots of silent smiles after that. I could feel the free flow of love in our hearts.

All our lives, we keep living with ego and this ego is so persistent that we do whatever we can do to increase it It needs constant feeding. Infact buying more than what we need also is a sign, where we want to prove that we have so much more. I can afford to buy and I have so many clothes or anything. The truth is what we need is very little than what we actually accumulate. We need to be happy in what we have. If we are unhappy and we lack the real content inside, we like to satisfy that need from outside. However, the truth is we ould never be able to fill up that gap from outside. We need to explore our trueself from inside and live with the sawme reality. We all know we would die one day, we all know we will grow old, still we are unable to live with that reality. I am not asking you to live with the fear of death, however, think once, if it would be your last day, what would you like to do, would you go and buy a new dress or would you do your best
to be happy and make others smile. You would get your answer. I remember, I had met a middle aged man, who was hospitalized in his 50s. When he was going to hospital, he was in very sober mood and apologized for whatever wrong he had done and when he came back, he was his usual self again. Again after 5 years when he was hospitalize, he was in sober mood and then back to usual self again. So when he thought that anything can happen to him, he remembered what all things he should not have done and he should have done instead and when he was healthy, he forgot those moments.

Now the big question is do we want to live with this fake life where we know we are doing what we should not be doing or do we want to live with the reality of love? This life is not about wearing expensive clothes or  jewellery, its about love. Its about how much love you have and how much love you are able to share with everyone else around you. You cannot touch anyone's life by wearing expensive clothes but you can definitely touch someone's life by creating love.
